The
Belgian Shepherd is often referred to as elegant, graceful and
highly intelligent...….and yes they are all of those things but
living with them you discover other attributes.
We have learnt that elegant and graceful doesn’t
count when there is a wonderful muddy puddle to play in and can
feign stupid when they HAVE to have that cuddle NOW!
Our dogs have also taught us that a sense of
humour is an important part of life. They act the clown and make us
laugh and in turn they laugh at our own foolish antics.
The books go on to say that they are extremely
loyal and loving to their family …….and from our point of view
there is nothing better than knowing when you get home they will be
waiting impatiently for your attention .
Reading further it says they seem tireless, combining the
valuable qualities of the best guard dog for property with his
inborn aptitude for guarding flocks……but that big black dog
laying at my feet in quiet, content companionship seems to
contradict the books.
And
finally ….. they make great pets, thriving on love and attention
and being with the family. They are excellent companions,
vigilant, attentive and, when necessary, protectors of the family
with acute senses and an inborn instinct to warn off an approaching
intruder. Our beloved Belgians certainly typify the breed in
this respect.
